VIA Survey of Character Strengths
Defintion and Photo Credit: VIA Character Strengths
The VIA Survey of Character Strengths is a test that determines one's best qualities. I took this survey so that I could discover my greatest strengths in order to best utilize them in my everyday life. Listed below are my top five strengths and examples of each of them in action.
1) SPIRITUALITY
Having coherent beliefs about the higher purpose and meaning of the universe; knowing where one fits within the larger scheme; having beliefs about the meaning of life that shape conduct and provide comfort.
A situation where I exhibit spirituality as a top strength is during my mission trips to Honduras. We go to Orphanage Emmanuel to preach the Word of God, and these trips have allowed me to grow stronger in my top strength of spirituality.
2) GRATITUDE
Being aware of and thankful for the good things that happen; taking the time to express thanks.
I believe that I exhibit gratitude every single day. Every morning when I wake up, I take the time to be thankful for another day and choose to make the most of it because I have so much to be thankful for.
3) LOVE
Valuing close relations with others, particularly those in which sharing and caring are reciprocated; being close to people.
Love is exhibited in my daily actions with my family and friends. My close relationships with the people in my life are the most important thing to me. I cherish and love each of them, using love to drive our conversations and interactions.
4) PRUDENCE
Being careful about one’s choices; not taking undue risks; not saying or doing things that might be later regretted.
Prudence is a skill that I have had to exhibit numerous times during my occupational therapy internship at East Alabama Medical Center. It is important to be careful with patients, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
5) KINDNESS
Doing favors and good deeds for others; helping them; taking care of them
I do my best to exude kindness in all of my daily interactions and conversations. Whether it is an encouraging word or just a smile, I want every person I come in contact with to feel uplifted.
